A beloved winter tradition, Harborfrost, will take over Sag Harbor on Saturday February 23. From 1 to 6 p.m., a duo of extreme elements – fire and ice – will be showcased in a myriad of mesmerizing ways, including fire juggling, ice sculptures, fireworks, and other exciting happenings.
“The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce is excited to present HarborFrost!” Lisa Field, Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce President, relayed. “Please join us for our winter celebration highlighting two extreme elements—fire and ice! Featuring live ice carving demonstrations, ice sculptures along Main Street, a Frosty Plunge into the water, live musical performances, indoor children’s activities, and fire dancers on the beach.”
The festivities will commence at 11:30 a.m. with a Culinary Stroll and conclude at 6:15 p.m. with a fireworks spectacular over the Harbor. “There’s something for everyone! Spend the day shopping and dining in Sag Harbor—we are OPEN for business,” Field noted. “And don’t miss the grand finale: Fireworks by Grucci over the harbor!”
Little ones will adore the free glitter tattoos at The Wharf Shop, a meet and greet Anna and Elsa from Frozen at Sag Harbor Variety, complimentary face painting at Stella and Ruby, and the KidsFun at Dodds and Eder, while all ages will be amused by Keith Leaf the Amazing Fire Juggler at The Windmill, the Fiery Sensations Fire Dancers at Long Wharf, and a tasty hot chocolate station, photo booth and more at John Jermain Library.
“The Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce is excited to again be presenting HarborFrost, especially at this time where there is so much change going on in Sag Harbor. We want to assure our community that Sag Harbor is alive and thriving!” Field said. “Our Main Street business district offers something for everyone: we have toy stores, hardware, homegoods, spirit and beverage, a 5&10, pharmacy, and a classic book store in addition to the many restaurants, coffee shops, and eateries.”
Whether you’re brave enough to participate, or just want to cheer the plungers on, one of the highlights is always the Frosty Plunge, which will be held at Windmill Beach at 2 p.m. “We also encourage everyone to participate in the Frosty Plunge which is for the benefit of the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance,” Field added. “If jumping into the icy water isn’t your idea of a good time, you can do what I do…make the donation so you don’t have to jump in! It’s a great cause and adds to the excitement of the day.”
“We hope that people will come out and enjoy all that Sag Harbor has to offer,” Field concluded.
