The Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton will once again open its ice rink for a very special winter happening, the eighth annual Katy’s Courage Skate-A-Thon, on Sunday, February 10.
“We can’t believe this is the eighth annual Katy’s Courage Skate-A-Thon!” Katy’s Courage Co-Founders Brigid Collins and Jim Stewart relayed.
The Skate-A-Thon will commence at 3 p.m. with a ceremonial puck throw. Then, be prepared to be wowed during a figure skating recital by local ice dancers and their coaches at 3:30 p.m. The Skate-A-Thon will take place from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. and then it’s time for another exciting ice event, the hockey game, which begins at 6 p.m.
“We look forward to this day every year and we couldn’t do it without the help of Buckskill Winter Club and support of this generous community. It’s a great day for families and the skaters,” the duo noted.
When attendees need a break from the action, they can pick up some sweets at the bake sale or take a chance on some of the exciting raffles. The winners will be announced at 6 p.m.
“We’d like to give a special thank you to the DeGroots and Cory Lillie for helping organize this event,” Collins and Stewart expressed.
Prior to the official Skate-A-Thon start, there will be skating classes from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and a regular public skate from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m.
Proceeds from the afternoon will support Katy’s Courage, a Sag Harbor-based organization founded in honor of Katy Stewart, an inspirational 12-year-old girl who died from a rare form of pediatric liver cancer. The not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization is dedicated to championing education, children’s bereavement support and pediatric cancer research.
“We’re so grateful and continue to be amazed year after year!” the duo concluded.
Pre-registration is required for the puck throw and hockey game. A rain date is set for Sunday, February 17.
The fee to participate in the Skate-A-Thon is $30 and the hockey game registration fee is $40.
