Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual Sand Castle Building Contest on Sunday, July 8 at 1 p.m. at Crescent Beach.
"We are so excited to offer families such a fun event on such a special weekend on the island," shared Brett Surerus, Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce.
The Independence Day weekend event will start with a free family concert at the Perlman Music Program
(73 Shore Road, Shelter Island) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The performance will feature Merry Peckham
, along with students, fellows, and faculty, who will highlight classical music through notable songs, amusing skits, and vibrant costumes.
Registration for the contest will follow from 1 to 1:15 p.m. Finally, judging and top honors will take place at 3:30 p.m.
"Some fun in the sun, plus the Perlman Music Program's family concert prior to the event, really makes for a perfect Shelter Island day!" added Surerus.
Refreshments will be available as will family friendly raffle prizes.
The $20 family entry fee includes a free sand pail and shovel for each child. All ages are welcomed.
All profits benefit the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce.
