Help the YMCA East Hampton RECenter make a splash in the East End community this February by signing up for the Sweetheart Swim-A-Thon.
Calling all East Enders who adore working out with their significant other and the pool is their preferred spot – even when it’s 20 degrees outside, starting Thursday, February 1, through Wednesday, February 14, you can make your laps really count by getting friends and family to make a pledge that will support a great cause. Sponsors can donate per lap or make a single contribution to a Swim-A-Thon participant’s fundraising, and proceeds from the event will go towards YMCA’s continued aquatic education and drowning prevention programming. Each couple’s combined swim distance and donations will be totaled at the end of the Swim-A-Thon and couples will have the chance to earn prizes, including dinner for two. The winning sweethearts will be announced on Valentine’s Day.
YMCA, who has been teaching little ones how to swim for more than a century, serves over 1,300 youth through its “Summer Camp” and “School-to-Swim” program. “It’s exciting that we provide swim instruction to most of the school districts on the South Fork,” shared Tasha Villacis, Swim Instructor/Lifeguard. “Watching so many children learn how to swim during their school day at the Y puts smiles on our faces every week.”
YMCA’s aquatic programs are open to those as young as 6 months and there’s no age limit. For those who have mastered the doggy paddle, YMCA also offers water fitness that focuses on strength training, cardiovascular workouts, balance training, and rehabilitative exercise.
“This Valentine’s Day, we’d like to help more children through our scholarship program,” Villacis added. “All donations will go to support our school to swim program and scholarships to help families in need of water safety programs.”
