Update: Due to inclement weather, this event has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 5th.
On Sunday, February 12th, lace up your skates and join the Buckskill Winter Club for the 6th annual Katy’s Courage Fundraiser.
“At this usually quiet time of year, it’s nice to have an event that gets participants outside and active,” shared Meghan Barnes, Figure Skating Director at Buckskill Winter Club.
The family friendly benefit will begin at 3 p.m. with a ceremonial Puck Throw, followed by a Figure Skating Recital by coaches and participating kids that will include the In Love with Broadway Ice Show, starring the Basic Skills Learn to Skate Program and Ice Stars featuring the Buckskill Winter Club Coaches, at 3:15 p.m. Once the performance is over, it’s time to skate for cause during the Skate-a-thon, which will take place from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. A Public Skate will follow from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and the event will culminate with an exciting Katy’s Courage Hockey Game under the lights from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
“We are happy to host a fun benefit that brings the community together on the ice for a wonderful cause,” added Barnes.
Skate-a-thon participants must raise at least $30 (the registration fee). Prior to their first lap, skaters should collect pledges – which can be either a fixed amount or they can make a pledge per lap skated – and on the day of the Katy’s Courage Fundraiser try to skate as many laps as they can during the Skate-a-thon. Following the event, they should notify sponsors of their accomplishment and collect their pledges.
When you need a break from the cold, head to the club house where you can pick up a sweet treat at the bake sale or take a chance on Chinese Raffle prizes.
Pre-registration is required for the Katy’s Courage Hockey Game, which is open to ages 12 and up. Pre-registration is highly recommended for the Skate-a-thon as well.
100 percent of the proceeds from the event will support Katy’s Courage – a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is committed to “raising monies to fund local school scholarships, pediatric cancer research and Katy’s Kids @ CMEE.”
