The Montauk Chamber of Commerce is targeting its efforts towards “leave no footprint” visitors such as family, nature lover and mature adult travelers.
“The targeted visitor campaign achieved 95 percent lodging occupancy in August 2016 and we saw more families and mature travelers than the year before,” explained Laraine Creegan, Montauk Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “Nature lovers—surfers, fishermen, trail walkers, beach and ocean lovers—have always been a mainstay.”
This winter, the Chamber continued its focused outreach by exhibiting at the New York Times Travel Show – the largest travel consumer and trade show in North America representing more than 500 destinations and travel suppliers – on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January, 29th at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
The Chamber’s goal is to get people to see Montauk the way locals do every day: “a conserved resort community with a unique seaside character and laid-back quality of life.” To help illustrate this, the Chamber worked with Tauk Is Cheap Productions, KGMedia, LLC., and Colorbar Video on “This is Montauk” – a series of videos, TV and digital ads that highlight the allure of “The End.” The videos depict Montauk as an authentic vacation spot for families, outdoors, and culinary tourists. The culinary film will premiere in the spring of 2017, while family and outdoors videos were released last year.
The family video follows a Montauk family’s leisure time which includes bike riding, surfing, yoga on the beach, fishing, horseback riding, playing mini-golf, sunfish sailing, lunching dockside, and beach walking. Viewers will get a complete idea of what Montauk truly offers through the series. Both videos show breathtaking aerial views of Montauk’s landscapes, seascapes, and the infamous lighthouse.
The third video illuminates Montauk’s farm, sea, and vine fresh to table offerings for the tourists interested in the culinary arts, “because food and drink are a pathway to experience the essence of a place,” said Creegan.
