Michael Collins of Southampton Hospital's David E. Rogers, MD Center for HIV/AIDS Care has been recognized as a "Distinguished Provider of the Year" for his service to HIV/AIDS patients.

World AIDS Day, which traditionally is observed on December 1st, serves as an opportunity for governments, national AIDS programs, churches, community organizations, and individuals to recognize and demonstrate the importance of the fight against AIDS. This year, the Nassau Suffolk HIV Health Services Planning Council will recognize World AIDS Day on Friday, December 2nd with a reception at Carlyle on the Green in Farmingdale from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

"Southampton Hospital is proud and appreciative of all the work Michael Collins does on behalf of our David E. Rogers, MD Center for HIV/AIDS," remarked Robert Chaloner, Southampton Hospital President and CEO. "Michael's dedication to the Center and to its patients has had a very positive impact on the lives of so many who are managing their AIDS and who are HIV positive."

Michael Collins serves as the Program Director of Southampton Hospital's David E. Rogers, MD Center for HIV/AIDS Care and will be one of two recipients of the "Distinguished Provider of the Year" award for his selfless dedication, commitment, and positive influence on those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS on Long Island.

"We are very pleased that his commitment and his contributions have been recognized," added Chaloner.

New York State has implemented a three-point plan to end the AIDS epidemic by the end of 2020. As of December 2015, there were over 5,400 individuals living with HIV/AIDS on Long Island. Over half of those individuals were helped by the Ryan White Part A Program on Long Island and many of them at our very own Southampton Hospital's David E. Rogers, MD Center for HIV/AIDS Care.

Southampton Hospital Foundation is located at 240 Meeting House Lane in Southampton. Carlyle on the Green is located at 99 Quaker Meeting House Road in Farmingdale. For more information, call 631-726-8700 or visit www.southamptonhospital.org.
