Imagine a time when oysters were more popular than hot dogs and soft pretzels on the streets of New York. Due to centuries of over harvesting and pollution, our local oysters have been wiped out. That's where Out East Oysters, an oyster farm located in the Napeague Bay in East Hampton, steps in. Their goal is to bring sustainability back to our local communities on Long Island.
Out East Oysters collects quality oysters from Napeague Bay and works on habitat restoration at their sustainable, 10 acre oyster farm in East Hampton.
Not only are oysters delicious, but they are some of the best environmentalists. A single oyster can filter algae and chemical runoff from 40 gallons of water per day!
Out East Oysters has turned to Kickstarter for funding and they're asking community members to give small amounts to help create something we all believe in! We all desire a stronger, healthier Long Island and can achieve that through oysters.
"Giving back to the environment is very important to me personally so I built it into my business with donations to The Billion Oyster Project," remarked Dean Tarulli, Marine Biologist and CEO of Out East Oysters. The Billion Oyster Project's goal is the restore New York Harbor with 1 billion oysters by the year 2030. Once Out East Oysters' oysters are large enough to survive on their own, Out East Oysters will donate them to the Billion Oyster Project.

In the future, Out East Oysters hopes to collaborate with Cornell University
to plant eelgrass throughout Napeague Bay, which will help provide a reprieve for marine life and will act as a protective nursery for young marine animals.
Out East Oysters is a relatively new company and hopes to raise 320,000 oysters in their first year. Any contributions to the Kickstarter campaign will help them purchase the important materials for raising oysters. The more their oyster farm grows, so will the wild population of oysters.
