On Saturday, October 10th, Scott Johnson, Executive Director of Southampton Youth Services (SYS), took on the challenge of making as many foul shots as he could in an hour, all for a good cause, of course.
With the assistance of a few rebounders and passers, Johnson was able to make a total of 1,326 foul shots during the competition, which took place during SYS’s annual Family Fun Day.
“Though it was a painful hour, it was all worth it,” shared Johnson. “Being able to raise over $100,000.00 for the benefit of children in our SYS community certainly helps to relieve the pain!” Prior to the challenge, supporters pledged a set amount per shot, ranging from 10 cents to $20. While making over 1,000 shots in an hour is an impressive feat within itself, the real winners are the SYS George and Annette Benedict Scholarship Fund recipients. Thanks to the generous contributions and Johnson’s perseverance, the hoops contest raised $100,242.70 for the fund.
The George and Annette Benedict Scholarship Fund gives underserved, local children the chance to participate in SYS programs and camps.
