Art historians Cynthia V. A. Schaffner and Lori Zabar will be giving an illustrated PowerPoint lecture on William Merritt Chase and the founding of the Art Village as part of the Southampton Historical Museum's Lecture Series celebrating Southampton's 375th Anniversary. The discussion will take place on Thursday, August 13th from 5 to 7 p.m.

The duo are the authors of "The Founding and Design of William Merritt Chase's Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art and the Art Village." For this event, they will explore how the school was founded and used in the development of Shinnecock Hills. The Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art was present from 1891 to 1902 and was the largest and best known plein air schools in America, back in the 19th century.

The lecture will take place in the Sayre Barn, located on the grounds of the Southampton Historical Museum. The evening will include a reception with prosecco and hors d'oeuvres.

Tickets are $95 for members and $120 for non-members. Attendance is limited.

The Sayre Barn is located at 17 Meeting House Lane in Southampton. For more information or to order tickets, visit www.southamptonhistoricalmuseum.org.
