Southampton Founders Day Celebration Congregates At Conscience Point

Southampton Historical Museum is hosting a Founders Day commemoration on Saturday, June 13th. Part of the Southampton's 375th Anniversary Celebration, the all-day affair will feature a variety of programs, including marine biology and aquaculture, Colonial Feast, Rotary Clambake and a picnic at North Sea Community Center to acknowledge North Sea's Native American past, the 1640 landing of English pioneers and the founding of Southampton.

The festivities kickoff with a Family Maritime Program from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Southampton Rotary Colonial Feast & Clambake from 12 to 2:30 p.m., and an Aquaculture Program at the Shellfish Hatchery from 1 to 3 p.m. Next up is a Conscience Point Shellfish Hatchery Open House from 2 to 3 p.m., and the Re-dedication of the Monument at Conscience Point from 3 to 4 p.m. The day will end with Shinnecock Tribe Historical Reenactment of 1640 from 4 to 5 pm.

Other activities will showcase "Shapiro's Shanty Shakedown" performing traditional sea music with a new twist that including funky New Orleans rhythms, solemn brass chorales and old-time banjo breakdowns, lessons in marine biology from Sea Scout Ship 908, and nature walks led by the South Fork Natural History Museum.

Founders Day events will take place at Conscience Point Historic Site and Nature Trail, Conscience Point Road in North Sea. Admission to all the events is free.
