"From the beginning, the Ellen Hermanson
Foundation has generously supported the growth and exceptional quality of Southampton Hospital
's breast health program," expressed Southampton Hospital President and CEO, Robert Chaloner
when he announced that The Ellen Hermanson Foundation
has awarded the Hospital two grants. "The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center
has distinguished itself by offering state-of-the-art "academic medical center" care in a warm and compassionate community hospital setting."
The two grants, totaling $295,000, will fund technology and patient support services at The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center. "Medical care is not a luxury," noted Julie Ratner
, Ellen Hermanson Foundation Chair. "The Foundation is committed to supporting Southampton Hospital by providing the necessary funds to insure that women and men have access to quality breast health care close to home. That is why we keep the money we raise on the East End in the community."
$100,000 of the $170,700 grant will be applied to the purchase of a Tomosynthesis 3-D Imaging System at the Medical Atrium in Hampton Bays, which will provide convenient access for patients who live in communities west of the Shinnecock Canal, and enable the Hospital to invest in new technology to assure correct and timely diagnosis and treatment. The rest of that grant will be applied to the purchase of diagnostic and treatment technology including a new DEXA system and Radioactive Seed Localization. The grant of $124,300 will support Ellen's Well
services including an oncological social worker, the annual "Day of Renewal and Hope," the "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" program, and transportation for cancer patients undergoing treatment. 2015 marks the milestone 20th anniversary of Ellen's Run, the annual Hamptons 5K race, which is the biggest fundraising effort the Ellen Hermanson Foundation holds.
The Foundation is a long-time partner of Southampton Hospital's Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, which is the only facility of its kind on Eastern Long Island.
