The Parrish Art Museum is hosting their First Annual Summer Family Party sponsored in part by Leman Manhattan Preparatory School on Saturday, August 16, 2014, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Parrish. The event will feature activities such as family-oriented art projects with East Hampton-based artist Billy Sullivan, whose work can be seen in the Parrish Collection, and brothers, Steven and William Ladd, both of whose work will be exhibited in the Museum this autumn. Sullivan will also serve as the Honorary Chair of the benefit with Co-Chairs, Peggy Bader, Allison Berg, Chesie Breen, Julie Falk, Alexandra Oblak and Marcia Dunn Sobel.
“The goal of the Summer Family Party is to give families the opportunity to explore the Museum, create art together with master artists, learn new skills in a fun, casual way and get to know all that the Parrish Art Museum has to offer the community year round,” said Terrie Sultan, the Parrish Director.
This event will be held throughout the entire Museum, in the galleries, on the covered Mildred C. Brinn Terrace, on the event lawn, in the art studio as well as in the Lichtenstein Theater. Billy Sullivan will lead a “blind” drawing activity for families and the Ladd brothers will supervise guests in their original scroll-making process called a “Scrollathon.” Attendees will have the chance to make a Flipping Fun flipbook with the assistance of a director who will help them brainstorm amusing and enjoyable skits for the camera. Afterwards, these images will be converted into a take-home flipbook. Instructors from the Broadway Dance Center will give hip-hop lessons in the theater, and a scavenger hunt will take place in the galleries. Participating children will become art detectives and search for specific works of art and items on a clue sheet.
This benefit will support the Museum’s many year-round initiatives. Tickets for Museum members are $75 for children and $100 for adults. Tickets for non-members are $110 for adults and $85 for children. The ticket includes all activities for the afternoon as well as food and beverages provided by the Golden Pear Café and Scotto’s Pizza. A family sponsor ticket is available for $1,000 and includes eight tickets.
