Hiram’s Paddle for the People is inviting East End residents to get wet, have some fun, and enjoy a chef-inspired barbeque lunch while raising funds for the local Sag Harbor food pantry, summer camp and school scholarships. On Sunday, July 27, 2014 Haven’s Beach in Sag Harbor will flood with paddlers of all kinds – kayaks, paddleboards, canoes and all other human-powered boats – for a morning paddle and afternoon barbecue.
During the family friendly benefit, paddlers will follow a route starting at Haven’s Beach and continuing toward Barcelona Point and Northwest Creek. The East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue and Sea Scouts Ship 908 Southampton will oversee the event, which was organized by Wamponamon Masonic Lodge 437 of Sag Harbor.
The registration fee is $60 for the entire event. Attendees can also choose to only participate in the paddling event for $45 or skip the paddling and indulge in the lunch for $25. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., the race starts at 10 a.m., and followed by the BBQ at 12 p.m.
Haven’s Beach is located at Havens Beach Road in Sag Harbor. To register, visit www.active.com. For more information on the event, visit hiramspaddle.org.
