On Saturday, May 3, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. (ARF) is marking a milestone by holding a bash celebrating their 40th anniversary in animal care. All pets, owners and children are welcome at the free event, which will take place at the ARF Adoption Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers.
Attendees can enjoy a morning of games, contests and treats, and also learn about the latest heroic rescues by the Animal Rescue Fund. The morning program consists of dog agility and obedience competitions, guitar playing by Sandy Rapp, as well as free microchipping courtesy of Suffolk County Department of Health Services and rabies vaccines administered by Dr. Tom DeVincentis, the owner of the Country Vet in New York City.
The morning will also feature “Ask the Vet” with their very own Veterinarian, Dr. Sarah Alward. Feel free to bring up any questions or concerns you might have.
Hungry pets can stop by the Freshpet treat station featuring free samples of real food made from fresh ingredients. The celebration will also include a 40th Anniversary Cake (for humans), coffee from the Hampton Coffee Company, A Rolling in Dough Pizza Truck and fresh watermelon.
The event will conclude with a brief annual meeting, including an awards ceremony and the election of board members, Gordon Hoppe and Amy Sullivan. Proclamations honoring the organization will be made by the elected officials including Congressman Tim Bishop, Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Suffolk County Legislature Jay Schneiderman, East Hampton Supervisor Larry Cantwell, Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne Holst, East Hampton Village Mayor Paul Rickenbach and Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley.
Many former ARFans will be in attendance, with their owners most likely showing them off proudly. While they may have been re-named, or lost or gained a few pounds, ARF staff members always recognize their former friends, and are delighted to see them happy and healthy with their owners.
The ARF Adoption Center is located at 90 Daniels Hole Road in Wainscott. For more information call 631-537-0400 or visit www.arfhamptons.org.
