Colon cancer is preventable through early detection, yet it is the second leading cancer killer in the U.S. for both men and women. To help spread awareness, Southampton Hospital employees will wear blue on Friday, March 7, which is National Dress in Blue Day. They hope Hamptons residents will join them by slipping on the shade of the sea.
The cancer is beatable, if caught early during routine screening. Those over 50 years or with a family history of colon cancer should be screened annually via colonoscopy. Make sure you talk to your doctor about your risk for colon cancer and spread the word by talking to a friend or family member about prevention.
