As an effort to become more energy efficient, Suffolk County Community College installed high-efficiency L.E.D. lighting in the Peconic Building at the College’s Eastern Campus in Riverhead. The project paid off, literally. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), now PSE&G Long Island, recently notified Suffolk County Community College that it will be receiving a rebate check for $8,000 due to the installation.
“This most recent savings brings the College’s total income from rebates, energy efficiency projects and grants to $1,667,122,” said College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay. He noted that since 2000, SCCC has engaged in almost 50 projects including energy saving and energy curtailment like installing high efficiency heating and air conditioning, solar panels and L.E.D. lighting across the institution’s three campuses.
