The Children's Museum of the East End
) has launched its new Capital
Campaign which will enhance existing museum exhibits. The campaign debuted on Saturday, October 12, during "Rocket Day," a free community event at the Museum where families could create and launch their own rockets. CMEE has already raised half of the campaign funds needed with help from the Board of Trustees and principal donors. They are aiming to exceed $2 million in 2014.
"Even though the Children's Museum of the East End is a young institution, we've arrived at a critical point in our short history," said Museum Director Stephen Long
. "Given the growing needs of the community, we have been presented with an exciting opportunity to expand our service to the children and families who need us."
Plans to expand CMEE include a renewed ship exhibit that educates children about six simple machines while they scale up rope cables and tubes that reach 25 feet into the air, a new outdoor miniature golf course, constructed to develop physic and math concepts in an intriguing way, a new energy exhibit where kids can touch and handle wind, water, and solar power while be enlightened about sustainable resources, an expanded exhibition area for newborns and toddlers, an interactive tractor which will encourage education through play, an original "maker space" designated especially for older children where they can devise their own projects like stop motion animation films or fiber arts, and a redesigned visitor services area and lobby.
CMEE is located at 376 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton. For more information call 631-537-8250 or visit cmee.org.
