It’s no Fourth of July without the fireworks.
The Montauk Chamber of Commerce will be hosting another one of their annual Stars Over Montauk firework shows in honor of the Fourth of July at Umbrella Beach on Thursday, July 4th at 9 p.m.
According to Laraine Creegan, the executive director of The Montauk Chamber of Commerce, the firehouse used to put on fireworks shows but stopped over 15 years ago. Then The Montauk Chamber of Commerce joined the bandwagon.
“It’s a traditional fireworks show,” Creegan said. Creegan mentioned that they keep it the same to keep up with the nostalgia.
Grucci, the professional fireworks business who was hired for the show, has tried to bring in something for everyone. “We try to tailor it and have different types [of fireworks] with different types of rockets,” she said.
To prepare for the show, The Montauk Chamber of Commerce has enlisted local police officers for security. Certain areas have been fenced off. The fire marshall will be giving the okay once he determines that the wind gust is a safe speed for fireworks.
To finance the show, The Montauk Chamber of Commerce is asking for donations from the local community. The parts of the show that do not involve community donations come out of the Commerce’s treasury. The rain date is TBA.
“It’s lots of fun,” Creegan said when speaking of the folks who bring down a blanket, some snacks and watch the show.
