Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) has acquired a quite valuable addition, the Pigg-O-Stat Pediatric Immobilizer and Positioner. This piece of pediatric imaging equipment is designed to immobilize and position children from infancy to 3 years of age in order to capture higher quality x-rays. The product’s website claims that the Pigg-O-Stat produces higher quality radiographs with “more precise positioning and radiation protection in less than one tenth of normal time.”
The acquisition of the new piece of technology was funded by the Mattituck Lions Club. The Mattituck Lions are just one chapter of a massive international service organization, which has 46,000 chapters across the globe. Known for their work to combat preventable blindness, the Lions Club also participates in disaster relief, global health initiatives, and youth programs. The Mattituck chapter supports a wide variety of local and national community and non-profit organizations that correspond with the international organization’s general mission statement, including the Vacation Camp for the Blind, the Mattituck Rescue Squad, the Special Olympics, the East End Disabled Fund, and of course, the Eastern Long Island Hospital.
“Acquiring new pediatric imaging equipment such as the Pigg-O-Stat illustrates to the community that ELIH is here to provide care for all ages in our local community. We are constantly lookingg for new and improved technology that translates to excellence in patient care,” said ELIH president and CEO, Paul J Connor, before going on to thank the Mattituck Lions for their “generosity and commitment to local healthcare.”
