The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s (SASF) Puppy Mill Rescue Program was awarded a Grant through the Petco Foundation. Since 2010, the Shelter’s adoption rate has increased by 43 percent, and they welcome every stray pet in the Township of Southampton, no matter what breed, health, or age. SASF strives to honor Petco’s vision to raise the quality of life for pets and people who love and need them.
General Manager, Robert Cubban, of the Hampton Bays Petco said, “We are lucky to have such a great organization as the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation in our community and are happy that we are able to partner with them in their endeavors to find homes for animals in our community. We hope this grant from the Petco Foundation will be able to help in those efforts.”
Julia Morgan Abrams, SASF’s grant writer attests that rescuing Puppy Mill dogs from cruel and inhuman conditions, and rehabilitating them into loving permanent homes will dramatically raise their quality of life.
She explained, “They are no longer destined to live a lifetime in a small cage, used only for profit and tossed away when they are too old or sick to breed.”
SASF’s mission is to provide for the welfare of animals and reduce the number of homeless pets, and their goal is to promote and nurture the bond between people and animals through adoption, education, and community outreach.
